This sketch is my interpretation of a Vulpes, a fictional giant fox from my YA fantasy novel – The Sweep, which will be released in 2026.
In the story, the Vulpes, once tame pets were abandoned by the wealthy inhabitants of the city as they climbed away from the rising smog, and were no longer able to keep such creatures. Left to roam the city, these animals formed packs and now hunt the very owners that abandoned them.
Did you know…?
Vulpes, vulpes is the Latin word for… yes you’ve guessed it, the Red Fox.
And whilst the Vulpes are man-made monsters of my dystopian city of Londinium, it has to be said that there are no documented cases of foxes ever killing a human being.
They may bite and scratch in self defense, if threatened or cornered, but foxes are naturally wary of people and just want to be left alone, like most creatures.
